Fanfares and Brusicks

Houston’s Magnolia City Brass Band returns to Christ the King Lutheran Church for a concert featuring two virtuosic French fanfares, by Claude Debussy and Paul Dukas. The band will perform two works of Houston’s esteemed composer, Dr. William Brusick. The premiere of Dr. Brusick’s transcription of J.S. Bach’s Fantasy and Fugue in G minor, showing off what brass instruments can do with one of music’s greatest works, will conclude the first half of the evening’s program; while the second half will be capped with Dr. Brusick’s Purcell Suite, a magnificent exposition of the British composer’s finest compositions. Along the way you will enjoy John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen and Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, surprisingly well-suited for the brass instruments, and featured in the movie “Platoon.”

This concert is free of charge, nevertheless, The Magnolia City Brass Band, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation, would greatly appreciate your generous support.
